Easy Microwave Besan Laddu

Quick n Easy Microwave Besan Laddu made from freshly ground Besan!
image
imageimageThe slightly grainy texture of fresh besan added the X-factor, taking these delicious melt-in-the mouth laddus to a whole new level! You can also buy special grainy laddu besan from The Indian super market. If you use regular store bought besan for this recipe, add a tbsp of sooji to the mix. This will help lend the texture we are looking for.

Method:
For making fresh besan…
Wash drain and spread Chana dal over clean paper towel. Leave to dry in a clean dry place (I use my dining table) for 2 days…till dal is completely dry. Grind dal in dry grinder.
I used my Vitamix dry jar for this purpose.

Leave a little texture to the besan, if like me, you like your laddus to have a slightly grainy texture.

For cooking the laddu mix…
Measure 1/4 cup semi solid ghee in a microwave safe container for 30 seconds.
image
Add 1 cup besan and mix. Microwave for 1 minute.
image
Stir nicely scraping all corners.

Microwave for another 1 minute.
image
Stir the mix once again, carefully scraping off corners.

Now microwave in 30 seconds intervals…scraping and mixing after each 30 second interval. Do this 6 times.

Allow besan to cool completely.
Only then add 1/3 cup of sugar (that has been ground along with the 1/2 the seeds of 1 black cardamom). Do not add sugar to hot besan or your mix will become too loose!!

Mix till the mix becomes homogeneous…

I also like to use finger tips, for this purpose 🙂

Take small lemon size balls of the mix and form into tight smooth round balls.

Enjoy fresh laddus….to your hearts content!
Making these laddus, can’t get any easier! 🙂

PS: this recipe makes 9 medium size laddus.
You might have to adjust timings, according to your microwave. Mine is very powerful. So I used extremely short intervals of cooking time between each mixings!
